There are many stories about Windsor Brides

And how they became engaged.

King Edward VII never proposed to his intended, Princess Alexandra of Denmark. The proposal was made for him by a staff member.

Princess May Of Teck was originally engaged to her future husband's brother Albert. When Albert, Prince Of Wales died, Queen Victoria decided that they had a perfectly good Princess waiting. So, Princess May was with little or no consent on her part - bethrothed to the next in line to the throne, George.

Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, surprised everyone by agreeing to marry the backward and stuttering second son of King George V, the Duke Of York. When the Duke ended up assuming the throne as George VI when his brother Edward abdicated, the new Queen set about helping him to overcome his stuttering and supported him in his shyness at public functions.

When Prince Charles proposed to Lady Diana at Buckingham Palace, he asked her if she thought it might all be "too awful" for her.

Prince Andrew is said to have proposed to Sarah Ferguson at the country home of a friend and when asked if it was on one knee he answered "of course!"

Prince Edward is reported to have said that his proposal came as a complete surprise to Sophie, which was his intention. Sophie was slightly stunned for a minute and then finally realized she should actually answer the question, so she said ‘‘Yes please."

Peter Philips intended, Autumn, had to convert to Anglicanism before her marriage. She was Catholic and the Act Of Settlement of 1701 would have forced Peter to give up his claim to the throne had he married her with her conversion.
